Sexy Songs, So What?

It was not until recently, that I realized how much--I hate to say this but it is semi-true-- vulgar music I listen to. There is really no other way I can describe the video and song I have become obsessed with. "Rude Boy" by Rihanna is the catchiest, raunchiest, and most attention grabbing video and song that I have heard and seen in a while. In her lyrics, Rihanna talks about getting it on with a rude boy, stating that she wants him to be rough with her and do things that I am even embarrassed to mention. I am not saying that the fact that she’s directly or indirectly saying anything sexual is a problem, but the fact that listening to music with sexually suggestive meanings has become something normal. Songs like “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles used to be as far as dating or relationship contact would go forty or fifty years ago. I want songs to go back to that musical phase. Even love songs that are supposed to be nice and innocent like "Love Story" by Taylor Swift are irritating to me. What has changed about our tolerance level with the levels of sexiness? Society has grown numb to these sexual images and vulgar language. It would be cliché of me to say that sex sells, but in the case of this song by Rihanna, it does sell pretty well.

nice post. what does it say about us? are there levels of music now? how does it tie to the singer? Does listening to R's music pre and post Chris B mean something different?
